Miss California

I don't know if any of you saw what happened with Miss California, but she lost in the Miss USA pageant and some are attributing that loss to her answer about gay marriage. The events transpired as follows.

Openly gay blogger Perez Hilton asked Miss California "Vermont recently became the 4th state to legalize same sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?"

Her response? "In my country, in my family, I think that I believe a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anyone out there, but that’s how I was raised."

The audience proceeded to boo her.

After the winner was announced Perez Hilton posted this video on his blog. I haven't seen the video in it's entirety, so I am not sure what language is in it. So it's probably not a good idea to watch this at work.

Classy huh?

How could her response have triggered this? Her answer was true, and not condemning in any way possible. Now she is being criticized for her stance? What is this crap? I for one am sick of people being so sensitive as to take any stance against homosexuality as a personal attack on them.

I am so happy she said what she did and she should not be ashamed about it at all. As insignificant as a Miss USA pageant is in the grand scheme of things, I'm glad there are some girls in those pageants that actually think for themselves.

  1. Yeah, think for herself.

And follow the rest of the Evangelical movement.

  2. Lol…. Great comment of total individuality-anonymous. Good job poking fun at evangelicals just like everyone else. Oops I mean that was a VERY original and non conforming comment. (SARCASIM…. in case you needed interpretation) Wait no that’s not quit right.... I can’t really comment because I am and evangelical who does not think for himself... at least that’s what "they" say

  3. ahhhh good. Way to throw a punch at the Evangelical Church. See, look at the response she got for saying what she did. I merely support her and you are automatically on the attack. Thanks for reinforcing my point.

There is no one telling her she absolutely has to be against gay marriage in order to be an Evangelical Christian. She did it on her own. That is HER choice. Not the churches.

  4. I disagree.

I think there is plenty of pressure, in many churches, to hold to certain views. And the view on same-sex marriage is one of them. I have felt it. I am not conjecturing, but speaking from experience. Maybe it is just because I tend towards the allowing same-sex marriage. Who knows.

But you have to admit. Saying that an evangelical christian thought for herself by saying marriage should be limited to heterosexuals is a little off. It would be like saying an APU student thought for herself in cheering for APU and not Biola at a basketball game. Sure it was their choice. But seriously, there is pressure for APU students to cheer for APU teams (lame example, but still poignant).

And i am NOT insulting evangelicals. You read that into it. I am merely saying that I disagree with you.

  5. I think she was unfairly judged and I respect her standing her ground. Isn't this a BEAUTY contest? However... I happen to believe in marrying for the sake of love. It is not our job NOR the government's job to judge or dictate who we are allowed to marry. God created each of us. He is our final judge.
